You cannot be passive in your therapeutic journey.

Often people are looking for quick fixes for their or their kids’ problems. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix to anything related to our mental health. And if there is a “quick fix” it is often short-lived.

Many studies show our brains have neuroplasticity, which is the ability to change throughout our lives. We are what we repeatedly do. Therapy plants the seeds for growth and change, the nourishment of these seeds remains your responsibility outside the therapy room.

Even with hypnotherapy which works through suggestions, these suggestions get anchored into long term change when we act on them consistently, as stated in the rules of the mind: “Each suggestion acted upon creates less opposition to successive suggestions.”

When you or your child are starting a new therapeutic journey, you need to be an active participant in the healing and empowerment.

Perfection is not the goal, just consistency in applying whatever growth strategies your therapy leads to.

This is also very true of parents with kids in therapy. Kids need support from their big people as they become more empowered.
